Pastor of Family Formation - Site: Palo Alto

OVERVIEW

The Highway Community is a non-denominational, independent Christian church founded on four core values that are inspired by the first church that formed in Jerusalem in Acts 2:  truth, authenticity, community, and hope.

Established in the spring of 2000, we are a multi-site church currently meeting in Palo Alto and Mountain View, CA. We also own and operate Red Rock Coffee in downtown Mountain View as a space to actively be neighbors, create culture, and encourage and support art and artists in our local community.

We believe that community plays a vital role in the journey of following Jesus, and living as missionaries in the places where God has sent us.

THE POSITION

Pastor of Family Formation oversees the spiritual development of families (parents and children from newborn to college age) within The Highway Palo Alto Community in Christ.

RESPONSIBILITIES


Build flourishing families through personal and program ministry.

  • Cast and communicate a vision for flourishing families.
  • Establish small groups of families for mutual encouragement and support
  • Connect new families into the life of the community.
  • Integrate families into programs designed to meet their needs (e.g., play groups, Sunday School, Highway Kids events, family events, etc.)

Volunteer Leader Development

  • Recruit lay teams to provide leadership for children, youth and college ministries.
  • Oversee all new volunteers’ application and trial period
  • Facilitate ongoing leader training and development
  • Build up and encourage leadership team

Christian Education

  • Recruit and equip Highway Kids teachers and helpers.
  • Meet regularly with Highway Kids and Student Ministries staff to provide mentoring, encouragement and resources for ministry
  • Visit and evaluate Highway Kids and Student Ministries events on occasion to provide support and encouragement
  • Develop a mentoring approach for parents of adolescents that draws upon parenting resources within the Highway Community.
  • Develop and oversee a special needs ministry.

Highway Participation

  • Communicate with the site team in such a way that they are informed and enthusiastically supportive of the priorities and programs of the family ministry
  • Collaborate with other ministry areas to foster student and family engagement at Highway more broadly
  • Contribute to the Family Ministry cloud team, which collaborates and ensures philosophical alignment across both campuses in Kids through Youth ministries.
  • Be supportive and participate in pursuing the mission and goals of Highway
  • Attend Sunday morning worship and major church-wide events throughout the year
  • Support special events for families, e.g., VBS, Fallapalooza, Stations events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-year college degree and Christian education required
  • At least 5 years ministry experience required
  • Self-directed to successfully execute full range of responsibilities
  • Pastorally gifted to invest in relationships students, parents, and leaders
  • Biblical knowledge foundational to teaching and leading the ministry
  • Teaching, including planning teaching series and small group materials, in a manner appropriate to age groups

Creative Arts Pastor - Site: Palo Alto

OVERVIEW

THE POSITION

The Creative Arts Pastor oversees worship and creative arts ministries at their respective sites. As a key member of the Highway Creative Team, they will pursue musical excellence and the deep mysteries of worship, and help to craft the thematic exploration of scripture and spirituality. They seek the truths of God in music, art, film, and literature, and bring those ideas to bear through the many ministries and expressions of Highway. Working closely with the Team Lead, they are passionate about pastoring and walking with musicians and artists, and adept at using their creativity to learn new technical skills in video editing, design, and web, to enrich the ongoing narrative of the way of Jesus.

RESPONSIBILITIES


Worship Arts

  • Develop and lead the weekly worship service
  • Collaborate weekly with the teaching lead to develop a thematic, multi-sensory worship service
  • Develop and lead lay technical, music and ambiance teams
  • Pastor musicians and artists, helping them explore, improve and contribute their gifts
  • Equip and oversee the worship producer in preparation for weekly services
  • Coach public speakers to present clearly and effectively within the worship service
  • Learn new technical skills in visual media, editing and design

Highway Participation

  • Actively participate in site team leadership of the campus
  • Collaborate with other ministry areas to foster Creative Arts at Highway more broadly
  • Serve on the Creative Arts Cloud to facilitate Highway’s creative expressions of worship and support seasonal worship festivals (Stations of Advent, Cross and Jubilee)
  • Be supportive and participate in pursuing the mission and goals of Highway
  • Support campus-related events as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seasoned worship leader, front person, and bandleader
  • Passionate about ministry with excellence
  • Passionate about developing worship teams, motivating artists, and building artistic communities
  • Able to turn abstract creative / cultural ideas into teachable moments
  • Experience in visual media / filmmaking a plus
  • High level of technical-creative aptitude a plus (recording, engineering, graphic design, web design, etc.)
